SPHDS' 36th ANNIVERSARY GALA DINNER

We will be honoring the school’s Founders, Builders, Visionaries and staff at SPHDS’ 36th Anniversary celebration. They will be honored for establishing the first day school on the peninsula, thereby establishing the beginnings of day school education on the Peninsula – SOUTH PENINSULA HEBREW DAY SCHOOL. Through the commitment and dedication of the founders, SPHDS has grown to become a cornerstone of the vibrant, ever growing Jewish community in the South Bay.

Please contact Yaffa Borison at:
yaffa.borison@sphds.org for reservations and/or any queries.

KINDERGARTEN CELEBRATES LAG B'OMER
Kindergartners collected sticks and enjoyed singing, dancing and snacks around their virtual bonfire in honor of Lag B'Omer.

LAG B'OMER
The SPHDS campus' open space was turned into a soccer field, or was it a volleyball court, or maybe an obstacle course, or could it have been a car wash – or, perhaps, it was all of the above. If you selected all the above that was the correct answer because it was the school’s annual Lag B'Omer Field Day which had a multitude activities.

The students, teachers and administrators had "one big field day” and it was great fun for everyone.

GAN AVIV LECTURE - Potty Training
“Tips to Help with Potty Training" will be the last in this year’s lecture series for parents who have children ready to be potty trained. It will be held on Monday evening, May 18th, from 7:30 – 9:00 p.m., in the Tziporim Room (#3), in the preschool wing.

This session will emphasize potty readiness. Parents will share ideas and discover tips that have worked. Barbara Goldstein will be the facilitator.

This lecture is sponsored by the Gan Aviv Honor Fund which is supported by generous donations for various life cycle events. All lectures are open to the community so invite your friends. There is no fee for SPHDS families; community members are asked for a $5 donation, per person.

RSVP to Barbara.Goldstein@SPHDS.org or call: 408.738.3060.

SUN AND CHILDREN ARE LIKE OIL AND WATER
An Israeli company Dermor DermaCosmetic products will be supporting a Gan Aviv fundraising drive for a sun shade for the school's Gan Aviv playground.  This sun shade will protect the children from too much sun exposure while they play outdoors.

At this Sunday's Foothill Century attendees will be able to purchase Dermor products.  15% of the purchases made this Sunday, as well as purchases made during the year, will be donated to the construction of the sun shade; please mention "SPHDS" and the school will receive the 15%donations.

For further information call:  408.368.3214.

TRIPLE HEADER COMING UP                                                   Our five senses - sight, sound, touch, taste and smell - will come alive on Wednesday, May 27th when our "triple header" of the Torah Fair. Art Exhibition and Barbecue takes place outdoors.

Each year our students bring their Torah studies knowledge alive with creative depictions and explanations of one portion of their Judaic Studies.

Their creativity continues in a different vein at the Art exhibit where their art work is purely what is in their imagination; whether it is free form or more classic art.

The last of the "triple header" is a great barbecue for all to enjoy.  When you leave SPHDS' campus all of your senses will be satisfied - viewing the art; hearing about and seeing the Torah exhibits; smelling the food and eating at the BBQ.

LIBRARY NEWS
As the school year comes to a close, we are in the process of having all library materials returned to the school library.

All borrowed library materials must be returned by June 1st. If they are not returned by the deadline, letters will be sent home notifying parents of the overdue library materials and what their replacement costs are. These bills must be cleared before the end of the school year.

Thanking you in advance for your cooperation.

USED BOOK and MEDIA SALE
The Parents' Association will be holding a Used Book and Media Sale on Wednesday and Thursday, June 3rd and 4th.  Drop off your used books, DVDs, and computer games, Hebrew and English, in front of the school office, beginning this Monday, May 11th.  Please put items in the appropriately marked boxes, both children and adult books are welcomed.  All proceeds will benefit the Parents' Association's activities for the students.

GAN AVIV HAPPENINGS

Summer Camp at SPHDS
With summer fast approaching it’s time to start thinking about what to do with your preschooler during the long summer break. South Peninsula Hebrew Day School is pleased to offer you, once again, the perfect answer — Gan Aviv Summer Camp. A camp geared specifically for children who will be 3 by December 1st, 2009 and for children who will be entering Kindergarten in September 2009.

Activities will be organized around a weekly theme. Children can look forward to Beach Bonanza, Fun with Food, and activities planned for indoors as well as outdoors. Of course, water will be included in this year's activities, especially on hot days. Specialized enrichment classes are a part of this great summer package.

Due to many requests, we are increasing the after camp hours (day care) from 1:00 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.

Registration forms are available in the office. You may call Barbara Goldstein at: 408.738.3060 or email her at: ece@sphds.org with any questions

Parent and Child Program at SPHDS
