PESACH IS COMING
Project Noah - No One Abandoned Here
The Hagaddah says,"... All who are hungry-come and eat. All who are needy come and join the Passover celebration." Help JFS collect and distribute Pesach food to families and seniors in our community.
The barrel in front of the office is for your contribution(s) and will be available from March 2nd through March 30th. Contributions of the following items labeled "Kosher for Passover" would be greatly appreciated: gefilte fish, horseradish, jam, candies, honey, latke mix, potato starch, grape juice, matzoh ball soup in a jar, matzoh, macaroons, cookies, matzoh meal, cake meal, and tea.
CHAI HOUSE VISIT
Mrs. Felsen's first grade class visited Chai House, last Friday, to deliver Mishloach Manot and sing for the residents. The students dressed up in costumes, sang songs and told the story of Purim. The residents were thrilled with the students' program and they asked them to come back again! The first grade was very proud of their big Mitzvah!.
SUMMER CAMP AT SPHDS
With summer fast approaching it’s time to start thinking about what to do with your preschooler during the long summer break. South Peninsula Hebrew Day School is pleased to offer you, once again, the perfect answer — Gan Aviv Summer Camp. A camp geared specifically for children who will be 3 by December 1st, 2009 and children who will be entering Kindergarten in September 2009.
Activities will be organized around a weekly theme. Children can look forward to Beach Bonanza, Fun with Food, and activities planned for indoors as well as outdoors. Of course, water will be included in this year's activities, especially on hot days. Specialized enrichment classes are a part of this great summer package. Registration forms are available in the office. You may call Tanya at (408) 738 3060 or email her at sphdstanya@yahoo.com with any questions you may have.

SPHDS’ 36th ANNIVERSARY GALA DINNER
The founders of South Peninsula Hebrew Day School not only had the vision of starting a day school, it became a reality, and now 36 years later it has become a learning center that has educated thousands of students from around the world e.g., Sweden, Australia, England, Russia, Japan, Israel, Mexico, Iraq and also from throughout the United States. Many of our graduates made aliyah and are now leading very productive lives in Israel. We are humbled by the successes of our students.
So…it is now time to celebrate SPHDS' double "chai" anniversary with our school community and the San Francisco bay area community. Join us on Wednesday evening, May 20th as we honor our founders: Dr. Martin and Naomi Klughaupt, Pat and David Bergman, Judith and Israel Krongold, Stan and Stephanie (z"l) Sussman and Judith and Marshall Wallach. We will also honor Barbara Spielman for her 30 years of service to SPHDS. The event will be held in the spectacular setting of the Rotunda in San Jose's City Hall.
Invitations will be arriving shortly with detailed information about this milestone event. Save the date…circle your calendar.

STEPHANIE SUSSMAN MEMORIAL PROGRAM
SUNDAY, MARCH 22, 7:45 PM, CONGREGATION KOL EMETH
Professor Deborah Lipstadt will be the featured speaker at the second annual Stephanie Sussman Memorial Program..
The topic of the Professor Lipsdat's talk is: "In Every Generation They Wish to Destroy Us": Holocaust Denial, Antisemetism and anti-Israelism as factors in Jewish Identity.
Dr. Deborah E. Lipstadt is Dorot Professor of Modern Jewish and Holocaust Studies at Emory University in Atlanta. Her book HISTORY ON TRIAL: MY DAY IN COURT WITH A HOLOCAUST DENIER (Ecco/HarperCollins, 2005) is the story of her libel trial in London against David Irving. The judge found David Irving to be a Holocaust denier, a falsifier of history, a racist, an anti-Semite, and a liar. Her legal battle with Irving lasted approximately five years.
She has received numerous teaching awards for her courses on modern Jewish and Holocaust studies, and has been awarded Honorary Doctorates from Ohio Wesleyan, Yeshiva University, Bar Ilan University, and Hebrew Union College.
The Stephanie Sussman Memorial Fund was established at Congregation Emek Beracha by Steffi's family and friends to honor her legacy of passionate community involvement and her commitment to enriching Jewish life in the Bay Area. This talk is the second of a series of annual educational and cultural events open to the entire community to further perpetuate and honor her memory.
