SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR
Lights! Camera! Book Fair! The SPHDS annual Scholastic Book Fair is coming the week of March 2nd – 6th.

The fair will contain a selection of general interest books for all ages – students through adults! There will be a variety of special events during the week focused on families and students.

Volunteers are needed to help with the planning and preparations NOW, as well as volunteers who will work the week of the book fair. If you are interested in volunteering in any way, please contact Wendy Allyn at wendy.allyn92@gmail or at 408.718.9919.

The book fair is fun, it promotes excitement about reading, and it raises funds for our school. We need your help to make it a success!

SIDDUR PARTY
Say those magic words "Siddur Party" or "Chagigat Ha Siddur" ”and watch the eyes of every past, present and future SPHDS student light up. To paraphrase the words of the sages those who have not seen the joy at  the SPHDS siddur party have never seen joy in their life. This year was no exception. Whether it be the children’s costumes, the stage, the MPR or the cake everything was perfect. Could anyone present forget the songs and dances, the tefillot of the children for peace and mashiach; but above all, the exuberance.

None of this could have happened without our dedicated band of grade one teachers:- Morah Tammy, Morah Etti, Morah Sarah, Morah Chani and Mrs. Orosco. We are fortunate to have found a music teacher of the caliber of Batyah Chazanchuk and Karina who worked wonders with our dance troupes. To all the parents who assisted both before and after the performance we thank you for your efforts; and, also, for the opportunity that you give us each and every day to assist you in educating your wonderful children.

To relive the experience see u-tube.

OHLONE NATIVE AMERICANS
Last Thursday the third grade students had a special visitor, Mary Berger, Park Interpreter, from the Santa Clara County Parks who spoke to them about the Ohlone Native Americans.

They learned that the Ohlones occupied the land from San Francisco to Monterey. Her presentation began with a slide show that showed what the habitat of the Ohlones looked like (Tule Huts) and how they survived in the land.

She divided the students into two groups and took one group to show them, through hands-on experience, the artifacts and resources of the Ohlones; the students loved doing this. The second group of students had a chance to create and play a game called staves. This game consists of colored sticks and throwing them on the ground to earn points (reminds one of today’s version of pick-up sticks).

The students were excited to have their special guest at SPHDS and enjoyed every moment of her excellent presentation.

CURRICULUM NIGHT

On Wednesday night, March 11th from 7:30 – 8:30 p.m., Academic Dean, Melissa Lee, will lead a Curriculum Night for all parents in the MPR. She will discuss new developments in the K-8 General Studies curriculum. This program is for parents only. Please click here for flyer. To attend, please RSVP to: office@SPHDS.org.

TECH MUSEUM
Last week the third and fourth grades had a wonderful trip to the Tech Museum in San Jose. They engaged in many hands on activities relating to genetics, space travel, earthquakes and the growing capabilities of the internet. The Imax film “Wild California” was shown which highlighted the natural wonders of our state. As student Toiba Jacobs said, “I had a lot of fun and there was a robot that can draw your face. After it draws your face, you get your picture! Will my teachers let me go again? I do not know if they will, but maybe I can take my family!!”

Thank you to the chaperones and everyone that made this a successful day of learning and fun.
