AN INCREDIBLE VISIT TO ISRAEL
Once again our 8th Grade culminated their studies with an eventful trip to Israel.
Accompanied by David Kulka and Rabbi Schochet, the students spent nine days
touring Israel from Rosh Hanikra to Sde Boker and from the Mediterranean to the
Dead Sea. They walked where our forefather Abraham walked and fulfilled the
command “Rise up and walk the land, its length and its breadth.”
Along the way their journey took them from praying at the Kotel to seeing
how the immigrants from the Holocaust lived at the detention camp at Atlit. Their
trip would not have been complete without the traditional donkey and camel rides. As part of their journey they met with students from Rosh Ha-ayin and climbed Masada with them.

IMPORTANT SCHOOL LUNCH UPDATE
Please note the following changes to our regular lunch schedule:
Thursday, June 12th Pizza will be served for lunch
Monday, June 16th school lunch will not be served.
As the school year closes, we are aware parents might have extra lunch tickets. Lunch tickets may be returned to the office for a full refund.
ISRAEL IN THE GARDENS
It was a fabulous 60th birthday party for Israel in San Francisco’s Yerba Buena Gardens this past Sunday. Thousands of Bay Area residents attended and we would modestly say the performances of SPHDS’ 2nd, 5th and 6th grades were the highlights of the day.

It was a beautiful, sunny day and our students radiated a glow to everyone as they were the opening act of the festivities. They repeated their performances, of a few weeks ago, from the school’s Yom Ha’Atzmaut Celebration, “Srulik@60”.

Second grade opened the program singing "Eretz Yisrael Sheli Yafa VeGam Porachat.” Our 5th and 6th grade classes, performed "Kan Noladeti" which is the traditional flag march. Of course, our parents, teachers and staff led the cheering for the extraordinary performances.
We would like to thank morot Etti Tassa and Rachel Bar-Shir for leading the classes in the program.

P.S. A DVD of the school's Yom Ha'Atzmaut performance at Saratoga High School can be ordered for $5. Please email sharon.dwek@sphds.org with the number of copies you would like to purchase.
“THE FOOLS OF CHELM”
Scenes from The Fools of Chelm will be presented by the Middle School students; each grade will perform a segment of these beloved Jewish folk stories, on two different days. All performances will be held in the school auditorium.
On Wednesday, June 11th, from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. the 5th and 6th grades will perform, and on Thursday June12th, from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. the 7th and 8th grades will perform.
There will be no admission fee and everyone from the community is invited to attend.
POST SCRIPT: FOOTHILL CENTURY
The Foothill Century, the Only Kosher Ride in the West, made the New York Times!!! In the Friday, May 30th edition of the Times, in the Travel Section, there was an article on century bike rides, and SPHDS’ Foothill Century ride was included.
Click here to read that article.
Remember to save the date for the school’s next Foothill Century…Sunday, May 17, 2009.
LAG B’OMER FIELD DAY
What a Field Day students in Kindergarten - Grade 7 had on Lag B'Omer! It began after lunch and continued to dismissal. They had a fantastic time playing soccer, tug-o-war, fireman relay, volleyball, doing an obstacle course, and much more.

At the end of the day the Parents' Association treated them to Icees.

MABEL’S LABELS
Back by popular demand Gan Aviv is again sponsoring the Mabel's Labels
fundraiser. The site is open to order now through the end of October. This
is a two pronged action, first, choose from many different kinds and amounts of labels that will help personalize your children's belongings; and secondly, the preschool will benefit from your purchases.
These labels are great for personalizing children's belongings or to
help organize your home. Labels may be ordered two ways: either
call 1-866-30-Mabel or go to www.sphds.mabel.ca and be sure to mention Gan Aviv and SPHDS so our account will be credited.
ICE CREAM SOCIAL
Save the date!
On Thursday, June 12, the Parents' Association will be sponsoring an after-school ice cream party to celebrate Shavuot, to thank our parent volunteers, and to celebrate the end of the school year. It will be held at 3:45 p.m., right after dismissal, on the school playground. Everyone is invited; please join us!
