PURIM AT SPHDS
This year Purim falls on Friday, March 21st and the school day begins as usual - Grades 1 - 4 at 8:20 a.m. and Grades 5 - 8 at 8:10 a.m. Megillah reading will take place in the MPR at 9:00 a.m. The reading of the Megillah at SPHDS is a unique experience. This is probably the only place in the world where the Megillah is read in the presence of 150 children and one could hear every single word. We are very grateful to Jonathan Novich who will once again be our Megillah reader.
We have a long standing tradition of celebrating Purim at school with a carnival and this year is no different. The carnival will begin after the reading of the Megillah at approximately 10:00 a.m. It’s not Purim without costumes. School policy is that no toy guns, knives, arrows, swords, spears or any similar items are not allowed to be on the school campus, even on Purim.
Parents are invited to join us for both the reading of the Megillah and the carnival. Tickets are needed to play the various carnival games. A string of 20 tickets can be purchased at the office for $5, starting Monday. Refreshments will be available for $1 each. All proceeds from the carnival goes towards our 8th grade graduation trip to Israel. Parents may pick up their children beginning at 11:30 a.m.; dismissal is at 12:00 p.m..
GAN AVIV & KINDERGARTEN PURIM CELEBRATION
Parents and children are encouraged to wear their cowboy/cowgirl, prince/princess, Queen Esther, Superman, Mordechai, and even their Haman costumes to school on Friday, March 21st for their Purim celebration. (If a child or parent does not wish to wear a costume they will still have a great day.) School policy is that no toy guns, knives, arrows, swords, spears, and any similar such articles are not allowed at school.
The festivities will begin at 10:15 a.m., in the tan bark area, where the children will parade around the playground then the celebration will continue in their classrooms. At 10:50 a.m. everyone will go to the MPR to enjoy the Happy Bird show which the Parents’ Association is sponsoring...Todah Rabah Parents’ Association.
There will be no lunch and school will be dismissed at 12:00 p.m.
PESACH FOOD DRIVE
To paraphrase - was it Byron, Keats, or Shelley? “If Purim comes could Pesach be far behind?” We have had many queries about the beautifully decorated garbage can with pictures of Matzah and wine all over it, in front of the office. This is the time for us to be thinking about the less fortunate people who live in Silicon Valley (they do exist). We are participating in the Jewish Family Services food drive and request the assistance of our parents. Please help us fill our barrel ten times over with Kosher L'Pesach non-perishable items.
A PERSONAL NOTE…
“I would like to express my deepest appreciation and gratitude for the honor of being named the school’s “Woman of Distinction” at the Women’s Philanthropy of Silicon Valley Connections Luncheon, this past weekend.
“The incredible energy and dedication of the teachers, staff, and other parents at SPHDS is truly inspiring. Many thanks to all of you for your support. I feel very fortunate to be part of such a wonderful community.”

This year’s ride features our renowned kosher food at all rest stops, improved road markings and concludes with a delicious BBQ (yes, we will have chicken). Choose from our 100K, 50K and 10K Family Fun routes. We will also be adding activities for young children who have not yet mastered the skill of two wheel bicycles. Check out our website for more information by clicking here.
If you have cycling experience or other organized sporting events experience WE NEED YOU, if you don’t ride bikes, WE NEED YOU EVEN MORE.
