“CREATING RESILIENT FAMILIES”
Gan Aviv’s lecture series continues on Thursday, February 7th, from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m., in the MPR, with a talk and discussion on “Creating Resilient Families.”
Denise Salin, M.A., a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist will address the constant pressure and stress on today’s families to raise resilient and healthy children; how parents can establish healthy family schedules, and find the right balance for their families.
Ms. Salin has worked with children and families for more than twenty years; been a counselor at Cupertino High School; and taught at Stanford’s Bing Nursery School.
This lecture is sponsored by the Gan Aviv Honor Fund which is supported by your generous donations.
RSVP to barbara.goldstein@sphds.org or call:  408 738-3060.

GUNG HAY FAT CHOY
The school was a little ahead of this year’s Chinese New Year with our Asian Fusion buffet, this past Sunday, our second **** dinner. The 120 guests plus the many people who did “take out” enjoyed a fabulous dinner with an overflowing table of honey chicken, fried wontons, lemongrass tofu with mushrooms, a sushi bar, teriyaki chicken and much more.

Of course this evening wouldn’t have been so wonderful if it weren’t for the many volunteers, in fact, some of the volunteers did double shifts.  They cooked, decorated the MPR, cooked, set up tables, bartended and cooked.
Thank you to:  Tammy Bublil, Nurit Zohar, Sigal Kotchinsky, Michael Lerner, Joelle Pluemer Mollie Sherbin, Batsheva Benzaquen, Rebecca Handwerker, Ruth Burgin, Faina Gakh, Parvaneh Solymani, Sandy Aratow, Farah Zaghi, Linda Bostwick, Deena Goldfeld, Holly Mendel, Judith Sherbin, Yvonne Boxerman, Paz Brill, Mindy Cramer, Clara Rosenfeld, Rena Schochet, Sam Cramer, Nancy Kulka, Mike Haines, David Kulka, Meni and Margarit Peretz, and Chani Lapin.

To the 7th and 8th grade students who added to the atmosphere by serving and attending to the guests.

Many thanks to Luckys, in Los Altos, for donating the wine and to the Rose Cart of Sunnyvale (Homestead and Hollenbeck) for the beautiful flowers.
Proceeds from the dinner will go towards the 8th grade’s graduation trip to Israel.

We appreciate the generosity of Bobby and Fran Lent who co-sponsored the evening.

Kudos to Sharon Dwek for this unbelievable dinner.

GOOD TRIUMPHS OVER EVIL
Ms. Nikolakopoulos’ 5th grade class brought to life Joan Aiken's novel, “Wolves of Willoughby Chase,” which was completed in class, by holding a mock trial.  The story is of two young cousins who had their home stolen away from them by their greedy guardian.  A trial was held which resulted in good triumphing over evil.
The students wrote the script, brought in costumes and props for the performance, and each student played one of the story’s characters.
Ms. Nikolakopoulos played the Southern Judge, accent and all.  The production was outstanding and showcased the student’s creativity and talents.
Chalk up another one to the fabulous fifth grade.

STANDING OVATION
On Wednesday, February 13th at 4:00 p.m., the 7th and 8th grades will be presenting “Shakespeare Monologues” in the MPR.  This is the second and last performance of the monologues; last week the 5th and 6th grades did their show and the audience was delighted with it.
