A LETTER FROM JOE AND HIS FAMILY
Dear Rabbi Schochet, Teachers, Parents, Friends and Children of the School,
Happy New Year and warm greetings to you all.
Joe and I would like to thank you all sincerely from the bottom of our hearts for all that you have been to us.  For your warm friendship, love and support throughout the five years Joe has worked in America and during the sudden passing of our beloved daughter, Miriama.
Words fail us to express our sincere gratitude for the way you have been, but truly G-d knows how much we are ever grateful and thankful to you all.  A Mass of thanksgiving has been offered for your intentions and each day we pray, we continue to praise and thank G-d for the wonderful friends that Joe was so blessed to have met whilst in America.
We miss our daughter so much and Joe is still finding a lot of things hard to understand; but at the same time we are comforted in many ways for the way G-d took her.  We’ve always prayed for the grace of a happy death…and G-d in His great love for Miriama, blessed her with it…while still innocent and pure, onto Himself.  We can rejoice that she does not have to struggle anymore, let alone face all the temptations of this world.  She’s our angel…who we can talk to all the time.
So once again, to all of you, we say thank you and may G-d in His great love, bless and reward you all in ways best known to Him.
If, G-d willing, we are able to come to America as a family, we promise to come visit.  Joe misses you all so very dearly and talks about the school, teachers, and friends that he left behind.
Loving Gratitude,
Joe, Mabel and Ipolito Volvola

TEACHERS' IN-SERVICE DAY
A reminder to all parents, preschool through Grade 8, that Tuesday, January 22nd is a Teachers' In-Service Day and there will be no classes.
This will be intensive training in the "Second Step" inter-personal behavior program.  We know how successful this program has been in other schools and we are planning for a similar success at SPHDS.
We invite parents to a special presentation on Tuesday evening, January 22nd, at 7:30 p.m. in the MPR to learn about the "Second Step" program.  The success of this program is dependent on all of us working together  - teachers, parents and students.

ENROLLMENT OPEN TO ALL
Priority enrollment for siblings of current SPHDS students will end on January 15th.  Beginning January 16th enrollment will be opened for all applicants.  Please keep this time line in mind to prevent the heartache of suddenly discovering that a class is full; it really does happen.  All that is needed is a completed form which is available from the office or on-line at www.sphds.org and a $75 check for each child enrolled.
Enrollment forms are required for all children entering Kindergarten, this includes students currently in Gan Aviv's preschool.
For a preschool tour contact Barbara Goldstein at: barbara.goldstein@sphds.org  and for tours of Kindergarten - Grade 8 contact Rabbi Avi Schochet at: headmaster@sphds.org; both may be reached at 408.738.3060.

GAN AVIV OPEN HOUSE
Gan Aviv will have a family Open House on Sunday, January 27th, from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m., for current and prospective parents and their children.  This is the opportunity for prospective families to become familiar with Gan Aviv’s excellent and innovative early childhood program.
Invite your family, neighbors and community friends to learn about the preschool’s warm and nurturing Jewish environment with emphasis on social, emotional and pre-academic skills. Gan Aviv’s program includes Hebrew, Jewish and American holidays and weekly Shabbat celebrations.  The Young 5’s class focuses on Kindergarten readiness.
While parents hear about the program from the preschool teachers their children will be involved with play activities.  Prospective parents will also have the opportunity to speak to current preschool parents.
To RSVP for the Open House and/or to schedule a preschool tour, please contact ECE Director Barbara Goldstein at: barbara.goldstein@sphds.org or call the school office 408.738.3060 to RSVP.

**** DINING EXPERIENCE
SPHDS’ first restaurant night out received a **** Maven rating for its Argentinian barbecue dinner.  With such a favorable review SPHDS will have a second restaurant night out that will feature Asian Fusion, on Sunday, January 27th beginning at 6:30 p.m., in the MPR…so save the date.
The dinner will cost $36 per person if paid reservations are received at the school by January 22nd; and the cost will be $45 per person at the door.  There were more than 120 happy dinner guests at our first dinner in November, so make your reservations early.   RSVP to: office@sphds.org.
This event is co-sponsored by Bobby and Fran Lent.  All proceeds will go towards the 8th grade’s graduation trip to Israel. Please see the attached flyer for the menu.

IT IS COLD AND WET!!
Your children need their lost jackets, sweaters, hats and lunch boxes that are in the Lost and Found. It has turned cold and it wet and the weather people say that we will be having more heavy rains.
Please check the Lost and Found, which is outside the school office, and perhaps your children’s lost item(s) will be “found.”
