OFF THEY GO…
It’s been the custom in previous years that our 8th grade class takes a graduation trip to Israel…and this year is no different. Our ’07 graduates are currently in Israel having a fantastic time. This trip is not the usual sit in a bus and look at the “natives”, but rather “let’s hike it and see the country.” Shabbat will be at Kibbutz Lavi with a Motzaei Shabbat Kumzits with the kibbutz children, then on Sunday it’s on to Tzfat.
Mazel Tov to the Class of ’07
on their graduation and best wishes as they continue
to develop skills and expand their knowledge

WHAT A RIDE IT WAS!!
We did it again! The only Kosher Ride in the West, the Foothill Century Bike Ride, was once again a rip-roaring success. It was a magnificent day, there was an amazing turnout of 350 cyclists, the barbecue was delicious, there were bucolic routes, and friendly and efficient volunteers...all of this added up to happy cyclists.
We accomplished our main goals of raising money, grossing $40,000, for SPHDS and building on the success of the last Foothill Century to strengthen this event in the cycling community.
The event required a lot of volunteers ( we had 71 to be exact), working on Sunday, helping the week before with preparations, or months before on publicity, sponsorships and permits for the ride. Our volunteers' enthusiasm, dedication and competence were evident throughout. SPHDS is truly privileged to have had such a wonderful group of people singlemindedly working to pull this off. Plans are already on the drawing board for the next Foothill Century.
A very special thank you to our co-chairs of the Foothill Century Cindy Rogoway and Joe Goldberg, our school president, Sherry Solden, and our event co-ordinator, Lynn Osband.
TODAH RABBAH, SPHDS
As we reach the one year anniversary of the shelling of Kiryat Shemona we recently received the following letter from HaMeginim Elementary School for whom we raised money to assist them after last year’s devastation.
Dear SPHDS friends and community members,
Thank you so much for your donation to our school. Your gift was used to buy
books and games in English and has had a big impact on our students.
Thanks to your donation, English studies have also been given an additional classroom that we are using for small group study using the books and games.
This has changed the way students think of their English studies. They really
look forward to coming into the room.
It warms our hearts to know that there are such caring people that think about
us and try to improve and bring joy to our daily lives. Please know that you have
truly made an impact on our lives and we appreciate it very much.
We welcome you to our community with open arms and we would be happy to
host you in our homes when you come to Israel.
Please consider our school as your home, too.
Warm regards,
Yossi Malul, Principal Osnat Mordecha, English Teacher

THANK YOU
SPHDS would like to thank Sinai Memorial Chapel for their recent donation to the school. Each year Sinai donates to educational institutions – schools and synagogues - to assist their Jewish education programs. We appreciate their ongoing support.
LOST AND FOUND
There is less than 2 weeks left of school and our lost and found rack is overflowing. Please check it and find any of your children’s lost items. Any lost clothing that is not “found” at the end of school will be donated to a charity.
IZZY’S NOW OPEN IN SUNNYVALE
The community has long felt the lack of a kosher deli in the South Bay area. As someone said recently as she placed her false teeth in a glass, “for 46 years we’ve been waiting for it and finally we have one!”
The community needs to make sure that we support it so the deli will be here for years to come. Izzy’s Brooklyn Deli is a full service kosher deli and is located in the Hacienda Shopping Center, 783 E. El Camino, Sunnyvale (El Camino near Wolfe Road).
LIBRARY
All library books were due several weeks ago. Please return any outstanding book immediately. Bills for replacement costs will be going out shortly.
MAKE LIFE EASIER…ORGANIZE WITH LABELS
Now that your spring cleaning is over, it's time to get organized!
SPHDS and Gan Aviv are partnering with Mabel's Labels to help make it easier to keep your house in order and make sure children's clothes and other personal items make it back home. Our paperless fundraiser will be open for online shopping. They offer personalized and incredibly long-lasting labels for fabric, plastic, shoes, bags and more, including terrific Kashrut labels for the home.
Whether it's food allergies, going to camp, traveling, household organizing – there are labels to meet all kinds of needs. These labels are high-quality and make great gifts. A generous percentage of any order goes to support Gan Aviv programming, so please log on to the customized website at www.sphds.mabel.ca. Also, please note that the Kashrut labels are only available by phone, don't forget to mention SPHDS when calling!
Please forward this link to any friends or family members who might be interested. Questions? Contact Gan Aviv parent Christine Tachner at ctachner@gmail.com or call at 650-964-7905. Thanks for supporting SPHDS, and happy organizing!
PRE-SCHOOL DAY CAMP
Children are eligible for Gan Aviv’s summer day camp program if they will be 3 years old by December 1st, 2007 through children entering Kindergarten this September.
There will be 2 two week sessions, the first from June 25th – July 6th and the second from July 9th – 20th. Camp hours will be from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. and extended day care will be available from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.
It will be an action-packed, fun, summer camping experience with many activities planned. Mr. Dave will be there with Hot Shot Sports; challah baking for Shabbat, water play, art activities, themed weeks and much, much more.
Going by past camp experiences, we know the children will have a “blast.”
Brochures and registration forms are available.
CAMPUS TOURS
Tours are open for anyone who is interested in seeing our school.
Please call Rachel at 408 738-3060 to arrange a personal tour. If you know community families who have children of the appropriate ages, please invite them to call Rachel and arrange a school tour. |
