IT WAS GREAT!
Last Sunday’s preschool open house was amazing!  Current and prospective parents and their children, of all preschool ages, spent a wonderful morning hearing about the Gan Aviv curriculum, meeting the staff, playing in classes and meeting other parents.
Missed out on Sunday’s open house?...don’t worry…there will be a Parents’ Coffee on Monday, February 12th at 9:00 a.m. in the Library, room 13.  Questions about the 2007 curriculum, the successful Young 5’s program, day care and extended day care will be answered.
Gan Aviv tours are now being scheduled so contact Barbara Goldstein, ECE Director, at barbara.goldstein@sphds.org to arrange an individual tour.

SIDDUR PARTY
The 1st graders will be celebrating their completion of learning the aleph bet and the beginning of reading Hebrew at their Siddur Party on Tuesday evening, February 13th at 6:30 p.m. in the Multi-purpose room.
We look forward to seeing all our Grade l parents there. Kindergarten parents are invited to attend to get a “taste” of 1st grade.

INTIMATE AND LOVING
“A Tribute to Our Mothers” was the theme of the last Sunday’s mothers and daughters brunch.  It was warm, loving, intimate as well as entertaining, emotional and eloquent and everyone enjoyed a delicious brunch.
The choir of 4th, 5th and 6th graders sang, naturally about mothers; there was a humorous skit about a mom and her daughter “communicating” with one another, stirring poems about moms and an entertaining re-gifting raffle.
The depth of the feelings our students have for their mothers is perhaps best shown by these anonymous poems.

My Mother

My mother
She has two eyes
That always see
No matter how
Dark it is
She has two feet
That always walk
No matter how
Steep it is
She has two hands
That always drive
No matter how
Rainy it is
She has two ears
That always listen
No matter how
Hectic it is
She has two minutes
That always multiply
No matter how
Busy it is

My Mom Is
(an excerpt)

She always gives,
And doesn’t ask for anything in return
She is my mother

To My Mom

Mom, you are always there for me,
You have helped me from the start
You teach me so many things
And I love you with all my heart.

You’re patient when I’m foolish
You give guidance when I ask
It seems you can do anything
You have mastered every task.

No matter what I need from you
You always come around
A mother that is as great as you
Rarely can be found

You put up with all my mischief
And you deal with all my rage
Sometimes it’s hard to understand
Why I’m not locked up in a cage!

You cook delicious meals for me
You drive me to my friends
You help with my homework
Your kindness never ends.

I don’t know how you manage
To put up with every chore
You always know just what to do
Who could ask for more?

It is hard to find the words to say
How much you mean to me
But if it wasn’t for your love and care
I don’t know where I would be.

I wish some how I could let you know
How grateful I am to you
But that is just impossible
For there is far too much you do!

Special thanks to Morah Chana Greenberg for coordinating this wonderful event and preparing the good food.  Todah Rabah to Morah Chavivah Braun for working with the girls’choir.

BOOK CLUB
The Garden of Ruth is the next reading for the Parent Association’s Book Club meeting on Thursday, February 1, 2007 at 1:30 – 2:30 p.m., in the library.
The author, Eva Etzioni-Halevy, weaves history and fiction together to create a compelling exploration of a prominent biblical figure.  It is told through the voices of Osnath and Ruth.  The Garden of Ruth transports readers into the ancient world and offers both dramatic and thought-provoking new perspectives on a well-known story.
Want a stimulating hour of discussion each month, contact DeeAnn Hazani at dhazani@aol.com to join the Book Club or have questions answered.

BARTON’S CANDY SALE
The Parents’ Association is once again having a Pesach Barton’s Candy Sale. It will be held from Friday, February 2nd - 16th. Order forms will be distributed next week and if you notice your child doesn’t have one, please tell Rachel in the office.
