On Sunday morning, January 21st, from 10:30 – 12:00, a wonderful Mother – Daughter Brunch will be held for the 4th – 8th grades’ girls and their moms, in the MPR. SIBLING RIVALRY LECTURE
The 4th lecture in the preschool lecture series will be most interesting to all parents. The universal subject of “sibling rivalry” will be discussed. Highlighting the talk will be uncovering the reasons for sibling quarrels, how to minimize conflict, and learn how and when to become a successful mediator.
Stephanie Barry Agnew, BA, has 20 years of early childhood education teaching experience in Palo Alto area schools; and she trained at the Bing Nursery School at Stanford University while earning her degree there. She owned a school in Palo Alto and is currently a parent educator at the Children’s Health Council.
Unfortunately we are unable to provide childcare. There is a $5 admission fee for non-SPHDS parents.

PRESCHOOL OPEN HOUSES
Gan Aviv will be holding Open Houses on Sunday morning, January 21st from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. and on Wednesday evening, February 28th at 7:30 p.m.
Sunday morning’s Open House is a family event.  This is a wonderful opportunity for parents and their children to visit the classrooms, meet the teachers, learn about the curriculum, and make connections with other Gan Aviv parents.  There will be activities for children and a light bagel brunch will be served. Parents and their children are invited to visit classrooms and hear the teachers, from each age group, speak about their class’ curriculum.  There will be activities for the children and a light bagel brunch will be served.
The Open House on Wednesday evening, February 28th, is for parents only.
At each Open House parents will have the opportunity to learn about the school’s philosophy and specific curriculum areas including the specialized 2 year old program; the new Hebrew language program for 3 year olds; the kindergarten readiness activities for the 4 year olds; and the new dynamic Young 5’s program.
Gan Aviv hours are from 8:30 – 12:00 Noon and the Young 5’s hours are 8:30 – 1:00 p.m.; both programs offer enrichment classes and day care options as late as 5:30 p.m.

PARENT ASSOCIATION HAPPENINGS
Book Club
The Garden of Ruth is the next reading for the Parent Association’s Book Club meeting on Thursday, February 1, 2007 at 1:30 – 2:30 p.m.
The author, Eva Etzioni-Halevy, weaves history and fiction together to create a compelling exploration of a prominent biblical figure. It is told through the voices of Osnath and Ruth. The Garden of Ruth transports readers into the ancient world and offers both dramatic and thought-provoking new perspectives on a well-known story.
Looking for a stimulating hour of discussion each month, contact DeeAnn Hazani at dhazani@aol.com to join the Book Club or to have any questions answered.
Challah Order Forms
