NEW PRESCHOOL LECTURE
Our very popular preschool lecture series will continue this Monday, December 11th, 9:00 a.m., in the MPR.  Guest speaker, Sue Dinwiddie, MA, Human Development, will speak on ”I’m Talking…But They’re Not Listening.”
Ms. Dinwiddie will discuss how to practice speaking positively to children.  She will address ways that will encourage children to “hear” when we speak.  Learn new ideas of what to do when children are not following directions nor understanding limits.
Ms. Dinwiddie is a teacher of parent education throughout the Bay Area.  She has published two books on social problem-solving skills; taught classes in human development at Stanford University and Pacific Oaks College; and is the former Head Teacher at Bing Nursery School, Stanford University.
RSVP to Rachel at 408 738-3060 or email:  office@sphds.org.  Unfortunately we are unable to provide childcare.

Don’t Forget our
Chanukah Program

Tuesday, December 19
6:30 p.m.
in the Multi-Purpose Room

 with performances by students in
Kindergarten through Grade 8

No need to worry about the weather
the MPR will be “standing room only”
and everyone will be nice and warm!

COMMUNITY CHANUKAH CELEBRATION
During the eight nights of Chanukah, the various agencies of the Jewish Federation of Silicon Valley will “light up” Valley Fair Shopping Center, in San Jose, with candle lighting ceremonies in front of Macy’s entrance, at the Men’s Department, on the 2nd floor of the mall.
Each night a different federation agency will have the honor of lighting the Chanukiah; SPHDS will light the candles on the 4th night, Monday, December 18th, the program will be from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m.  In addition to the candle lighting there will be a variety of activities.
Please be aware that parking is always difficult at the malls during Chanukah.

CAMPUS TOURS FOR 2007 - 2008
Campus tours for prospective and current SPHDS parents will continue through Monday, December 18th and then resume after winter vacation.  Families whose children will be 2 years old, by September 1, 2007, and/or have children entering Kindergarten through 8th grade are invited to arrange a personal tour of our campus.  Please call Rachel at 408 738-3060.
Priority will be given to children who have siblings in the school.

IF IT’S LOST…IT CAN BE FOUND
Some students are getting chilly while others are getting cold!  Our lost and found rack is overflowing with jackets, sweaters and other cold weather items.
Please check out the lost and found and be pleasantly surprised when you find your child’s missing clothing!!
Remember, winter break is starting in less than two weeks.  Any unlabeled items that are not picked up prior to vacation will be donated to a charitable organization.

FLOWERS IN THE WINTER?
Once again we are indebted to parent Jody Hasson for beautifying our campus. The front of SPHDS is now enhanced with bright new flowers and new planters; they certainly give the area a wonderful “face-lift.”
We are always grateful to Jody for all the effort she puts into beautifying our school. Thank you so much.

PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES
Please note that Parent Teacher conferences for Kindergarten – Grade 8 students will take place on Wednesday, December 13th, beginning at 8:30 a.m.
Conference schedules have been sent out.  For parents who do not have their schedule, please contact Rachel immediately at 408 738-3060.
There will be no classes for Kindergarten – Grade 8 students that day.  Preschool will have classes and day care as usual.

PARENT ASSOCIATION HAPPENINGS
Sally Foster Online Store
It is not too late to purchase gift paper, dreidels and Chanukah wrappings from Sally Foster’s online store which will be open until January 15, 2007.  To order go to www.sallyfoster.com, enter the school account number 357901, when prompted.  This is a very easy way to get more items and support the school at the same time.
