KINDERGARTEN OPEN HOUSE IN JUST 2 MORE DAYS!
Families whose children will be entering Kindergarten in September 2007 are invited, with their children, to an open house/ice cream social this Sunday afternoon, October 29th, from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. at the school.
The afternoon's activities will center on a typical Kindergarten day at SPHDS. The program will include arts and crafts, games with our physical education instructor, as well as a tour of the campus, a visit to our library, and hands-on fun in the Benhamou Computer Center led by Chris, our computer teacher.
Parents will have an opportunity to explore SPHDS' unique Kindergarten program with our teachers. Experience a totally integrated curriculum - where science, Hebrew, math, Jewish Studies, music, art and language combine to form an academic developmentally appropriate setting for the education of the next generation of knowledgeable Jews.
To RSVP or for further information, please call our Director of Early Childhood Education, Barbara Goldstein, at 408 738-3060 or email her at: barbara.goldstein@sphds.org.
MOVIE AND PIZZA NIGHT
During the past five years we have held a movie and pizza night as a viable alternative to “trick or treating.” Our movie and pizza night will be held on Tuesday, October 31st, at 5:30 p.m. The cost of the movie and pizza, for adults and children, will be $2 per person.
BACK TO THE FUTURE
SPHDS graduates who are currently attending Kehillah Jewish High School, in Palo Alto, visited our 8 th grade class, last week. They spoke about their experiences at Kehillah, its academic program and its extra and co-curricular activities. We are proud of the important role our alumni play in the life of Kehillah and look forward to seeing this trend continue in the future.
It is interesting to note that three of our graduating students’ siblings are alumni and now attend Kehillah.

KIRYAT SHEMONA
Only two months have passed since the hail of Ketushas in northern Israel came to an end. It seems that for us life carries on as usual. The concern we felt then has dissipated but the reality is very different.
We as a school have undertaken a mitzvah project to assist two schools in Kiryat Shemona, Meginim and Yitzchak Hanasi, both very different from ours. The students and parents were, and still are, traumatized and for the most part had no where to flee.
The schools sustained much damage and there is a great need to help. One school has a new donated library but its shelves are empty, the books were damaged by fire and water; the other school needs audio-visual equipment. We would like to assist both to the best of our ability.
We ask our parents to open up their hearts and checkbooks so we can fulfill a pledge to the children of Kiryat Shemona. Please make checks payable to “SPHDS” with a note, Kiryat Shemona. Place the checks in an envelope and give them to Rachel, in the office.
This project is being organized by Mrs. Miri Levy, our Math Department coordinator…we appreciate her empathy and all her efforts.

Todah Rabah
The Gan Aviv Tziporim class is very appreciative of the Parent Association’s generous gifts of a work bench and a Rosh Hashanah set. They enjoyed using the Rosh Hashanah gift during the holidays and are continuing to have fun using the workbench.
The children and their teachers send a big ‘todah rabah’ to the Parent Association.
