KINDERGARTEN OPEN HOUSE/ICE CREAM SOCIAL
Families whose children will be entering Kindergarten in September 2007 are invited, with their children, to an open house/ice cream social on Sunday afternoon, October 29th, from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. at the school.
The afternoon's activities will center on a typical Kindergarten day at SPHDS. The program will include arts and crafts, games with our physical education instructor, as well as a tour of the campus, a visit to our library, and hands-on fun in the Benhamou Computer Center led by Chris, our computer teacher.
Parents will have an opportunity to explore SPHDS' unique Kindergarten program with our teachers. Experience a totally integrated curriculum - where science, Hebrew, math, Jewish Studies, music, art and language combine to form an academic developmentally appropriate setting for the education of the next generation of knowledgeable Jews.
To RSVP or for further information, please call our Director of Early Childhood Education, Barbara Goldstein, at 408 738-3060 or email her at: barbara.goldstein@sphds.org.
SALLY FOSTER IS COMING
It is not too early to think about Chanukah; fall, winter and spring birthdays; anniversaries and other special occasions.
The Parents Association will help meet these needs by selling beautiful, fun and special event Sally Foster gift wrap paper from Monday, October 23 – Friday, November 3. Check your children’s backpacks or cubbies for the sales kits.
SCHOOL PICTURE DAYS
Kindergarten – Grade 8 will be taking their pictures on October 25th and Gan Aviv will have theirs taken on the October 26th. Order forms will be distributed to students prior to picture day…so be on the lookout for them.
SIMCHAT BEIT HASHOEVA
The Talmud relates “that He who has not seen the Simchat Beit Hashoeva (the celebration of the drawing of water) has not seen true joy". In that vein, our newly formed Student Council under the leadership of Erez Cramer and the guidance of Rabbi and Mrs. Greenberg organized our own Simchat Beit Hashoevah. With Rabbi Braun, Director of the South Bay NCSY, providing the music and games the middle school students and staff had a great time.
Our grateful thanks to Rabbi and Mrs. Greenberg and the Student Council for the wonderful program and we look forward to many such events.
While on the subject of Sukkot, all grades participated in “sukkah hopping,” visiting sukkot in the area and enjoying the delicious refreshments provided by the hosts.
Our grateful thanks to the Judaic Studies staff who organized the “hops” and the parents and staff who hosted them.
The Student Council moved into gear organizing students to assist parents in setting up their families’ sukkot. This, together with the sale of schach and the sale of the SPHDS cookbook has raised close to $1,000 towards the 8th grade trip to Israel.
MOVIE AND PIZZA NIGHT
During the past five years we have held a movie and pizza night as a viable alternative to trick or treating. Our movie and pizza night will be held on Tuesday, October 31st, at 6:00 p.m. The cost of the movie and pizza, for adults and children will be $2 per person.

A Great Time Had by All
The “Moms and Muffins” and “Dads and Donuts” coffees in the playground Sukkah, last week, were a great success with far bigger turnouts than our regular coffee klatches.
Special thanks to Parents Association Vice-President, DeeAnn Hazani, for all her efforts on this wonderful event.
Ready for your Java fix!
Each Tuesday morning, from 8:15 – 9:00 a.m., the Parents Association hosts a wonderful coffee and nosh. Join them and meet with other parents, school board members and SPHDS staff; it’s a terrific way of meeting other members of the SPHDS family.
Many thanks to the Parents’ Association for sponsoring these coffees.
