“Welcome Aboard”… we are delighted to have Tanya Messer, Susannah Nadler, Rabbi Tuvia Greenberg, Chana Greenberg and Beeri Moalem join our faculty.

Originally from Hawaii, Tanya Messer says “aloha” to everyone at SPHDS. Ms. Messer is an early childhood educator and is our daycare co-coordinator and extended day care teacher. She graduated from the University of Hawaii where she received her B.A. in English.

Born and raised in New York City, Susannah Nadler is a graduate of Wesleyan University in Connecticut where she received her B.A. in English literature. She’s been a writing tutor and a wilderness expedition leader in the “great outdoors.” Ms. Nadler is the 7th and 8 th grades language arts and social studies teacher.

Rabbi Tuvia and Chana Greenberg have joined our Judaic staff and will be teaching Limudei Kodesh (Judaic Studies) to the 5th through 8th grades. Rabbi Greenberg, from Memphis, TN, studied in Israel and received his B.A. in Education from Excelsior College in Albany, NY. Mrs. Greenberg grew up in Teaneck NJ, received her BA in Liberal Arts from Thomas Edison College in NJ and a teaching certificate from the Ministry of Education in Israel.

New music teacher, Beeri Moalem, attended public schools in Palo Alto and graduated from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. He teaches music in camps and schools in Northern California and is an accomplished musician on both the violin and viola.

New and Old. “1st grade students, a new student and a returning student have become fast friends and enjoy lunch together on the first day of school.

Kindergartners are involved with art activities during their “Meet and Greet” day where students, parents and teachers had the opportunity to meet and get to know one another.

LUNCH PROGRAM
We regret that the school lunch program will not be starting Monday, September 11th. Parents will be advised as soon as we have a firm date.

LIBRARY NEWS
All students in grades 1 – 8 will visit the school library weekly. On Tuesdays, 1st, 2nd, 6th and 7th grades will have library sessions; and 3rd, 4th, 5th and 8th grades will have them on Wednesdays.

Books are on loan for one week. Upon returning the borrowed books the next set of books may be taken out. Please remind your children of the school’s borrowing policy.

Parents of preschool or kindergarten children are welcome to borrow library books when the library is open – Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Our librarian, Judy Wallach, needs volunteers to help shelve books and process new library materials; she will provide training. The library is open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. To help on either of these days any time that fits your schedule, please call the school office and tell Rachel of your availability; a regular commitment will be greatly appreciated.
